What does the SEN committee do?

The SEN Committee has had a term marked by changes within the Enhanced Resource Base.

Easter brought the retirement of Mrs Stafford after a very varied and rewarding career in teaching.  The occasion was marked with an ER party involving Mrs Stafford’s family, members of the school community and former colleagues.  The children were treated to an afternoon of cake and juice by the bucketful and greatly enjoyed the event. They had made a fabulous booklet as a farewell to Mrs Stafford – a lovely reminder of them.  The number of people in attendance including parents and children both past and present was a testimony to the high regard in which Mrs Stafford was held and the valuable support she gave to those children who access the Base.  She will be very much missed and we hope she has a long and happy retirement.

In April we were able to welcome Mrs Duggan as SENCO.  She has been able to put forward new ideas as to how she would like to develop the SEN provision in school and build on Mrs Stafford’s work.  It should be an exciting time and we are looking forward to working with her.

June has seen the annual residential visit of some of the older children from the Base to Moorside Farm in the Peak District.  This visit is FAB.  The children enjoyed trips to Hartington, Bakewell and Tittesworth Reservoir, feeding ducks, playing on the playgrounds and having picnics as they went.  It was a great experience for the children and helped them to further develop many ‘life skills’
