We are now at the beginning of a new academic year but, before we move forward, I should like to acknowledge that the last weeks of the Summer Term provided a rich display of ability, achievement and entertainment.

What an amazing educational opportunity Year Six pupils experienced by being involved in the production of the film entitled,'Ghost Squad. Lights, Camera, Action'!
Congratulations to all staff (especially Mrs Heys),to all parents (especially Mr Andrew Kirk) and to all children, who worked hard to acheive such an excellent standard of drama, suspense and humour in their film. Thank you very much.

The Year Six Production, 'Cinderella', was two hours of 'all round entertainment', which included excellent acting, singing, humour and magic. Well done to all those involved.

Thank you very much to Mrs Stafford, all the staff and children who entertained their families, friends and visitors so well, on Thursday afternoon, 12th July. Good luck to the four leavers and best wishes for their futures.

I hope that the good advice, given to us by Captain Carrot, 'to eat healthily', has been followed during the holidays and will continue to be followed this school year!
Thank you to the organiser of Captain Carrot's visit.

These reflections, on a few of the successes of last term, cause me to wonder what exciting opportunities the new academic year will bring for the pupils of Whaley Bridge Primary School?
There will be plenty of them - of that I am certain!

Best wishes and good luck, everyone.

Thank you to all those people, who worked hard to organise the School Fun Run and Summer Fair, on Saturday afternoon, 16th June 2007. What a successful event! The addition of a Climbing Wall, to all the other attractions certainly proved popular. Congratulations on a really enjoyable event.

What an amazing opportunity the children had, on Thursday 24th May, to fill the School Hall with exciting rhythms, beaten on African drums!
Thank you to the organiser of this never-to-be-forgotten, exhilarating experience.

I always enjoy my visits to school and the Year Five performance of 'Sleeping Beauty with a Difference' was no exception.
Congratulations Year Five! Your performance did show the audience a different approach to the story of 'Sleeping Beauty'. Your singing was excellent and your acting was convincing.
Well done and thank you to all who took part or helped in any way.
School Promo - Ian Bingle

WOW!

This evening I was given a short promotional media clip for our school courtesy of Amy Whittaker and Sol Campbell. It's absolutely fantastic and covers daily life at the school in just over a minute. I've posted it on the web site on the front page under "Take the Tour". Turn up your speakers!

I'm constantly amazed at the skill that our kids have in IT and this is a great example of their capability. Think back to when you were 9 or 10 and what you knew about computers. Hmmmmm.

If anybody else thinks they can beat this, then I'd love to see the results.
Website Training - Ian Bingle

I spent an hour after school today training the teaching staff to update the website. Apart from some glitches with the software (oops!) I think everybody managed to create a new web page and update it with some text and photo's.

Hopefully now we will see a new impetus with some new content being regularly added.

Well done to Miss Chapman, Mr Hepworth and Mrs McPherson who managed to battle on without the training and update their pages!

Thanks very much to all those who attended.

Reception Class Visit to St James Church, Taxal, on 29th March 2007.

After the Easter Bonnet Parade, the children from Reception walked to St James Church to hear Revd. Graeme Lamb talk about the various parts of the church and its activities, to see the church vestments and hear and look at the organ. A picnic was then eaten before the return to school.
Thank you to the pupils, who all behaved well and showed interest and to the adults, who accompanied them. It was a pleasure to be involved in this visit.

The Easter Bonnet Parade, 29th March 2007.

The School Hall was a sea of colour as Mr Oldfield and I took our places, ready to judge the bonnets. We had found judging the decorated eggs extremely difficult. How much harder would this be?
Mr Oldfield was impressed by the number of pupils taking part in the parade and we were both amazed at the wonderful variety of hats, which had been created.
Well done everyone who took part.

The School Improvement Review Record (SIRR) was delivered to the Full Governing Body, by Mrs Joan Wilcox, Whaley Bridge Primary School's Link Adviser, on 20th March 2007.

Our meeting with Mrs Wilcox gave the governors the opportunity to discuss the inter-relationship between the School's Self-Evaluation Form (SEF) and the SIRR, to celebrate the school's progress and to ensure the way forward in the coming year.
Mrs Wilcox gave a positive and complimentary report, confirming the SEF judgements.

Congratulations and thanks go to Mr Heys for his outstanding commitment and leadership, to the Senior Management Team and to the Staff for their hard work.

'An Evening of Song' presented by Chapel Male Voice Choir and Whaley Bridge Primary School Choir. 17th March.

What a wonderful atmosphere 'An Evening of Song' created for its audience. The contrast of children's voices with male voices was magical, as each choir took turns to entertain us, but when the choirs sang 'Brother James Air' together, the first part of the concert was brought to a moving conclusion.
The second section of 'An Evening of Song' followed the same format and the choirs were given well-deserved applause as they ended their programme.
Whaley Bridge Primary School Choir's singing was a pleasure to listen to, its behaviour was outstanding and its members were excellent ambassadors for their school.
Congratulations to the singers, to the accompanist, Carol Reid and to the Musical Director, Sheila Harling.
Thank you very much for a delightful evening.
Governor Week II - Anne Winter

Governor Week,5th to 9th March.

I fully endorse all that Mr Bingle has written about Governor Week and thank him for making Governor Blogs possible.

I thoroughly enjoyed the week, visiting every class in school, by following the timetable organised by Mrs Lee.

I began by joining in the regular Monday morning activity of 'weekend news sharing' and discovered that the weekends of the pupils in the Enhanced Resource Unit and in Reception are far more exciting than mine!

Year One children and I learned lots of facts about France after we discovered the answer to the question, 'Where in the World is Barnaby Bear?'. We were rewarded with a 'French food tasting', which included croissants, french bread and cheese.

Year Two impressed me by being able to sort books into Fiction and Non-Fiction categories and to identify compound nouns. What a useful resource the Smart Board is!

Year Three's ICT lesson on pattern dazzled me and their use of the library demonstrated their developing skills in choosing books and their enjoyment of reading.

I was able to watch a rehearsal of Year Four's Production and I am now looking forward to attending their performance on Wednesday, 21st March.

Year Five pupils were dressed in Ancient Greek fashion when I entered their room. They had obviously researched this subject and were able to write about it.

My afternoon with Year Six began with ICT. We were introduced to the 'spread sheet' and I was amazed how quickly the pupils grasped and used their new knowledge, while I had to ask for extra help! Their final lesson was Geography and the current topic is 'Investigating Coasts'. I was pleased to see the children recognising geographical terms and features.

Thank you to all the Staff and Pupils for an excellent week. The school is a joy to visit.

Although the school has ad hoc regular visits from individual governors during the year to see things first hand, the school sets aside a full week in the calendar each year, where all governors are invited to attend school and join in with whatever is going on.

Last week was Governors Week 2007.

Mrs Lee kindly co-ordinated the calendar of events and the governors were treated to observe and participate in everything that went on, from Multi-sports to Paul Klee painting classes, school dinners to a Greek toga party, choir practice to life in “The Base”. We were able to observe progress on the new Library and see how the new security system is going to work. Oh and yes, we even participated in some of the more traditional parts of the national curriculum as part of the literacy and numeracy lessons from reception to year 6.

For my part, I had a fantastic day on Friday and would like to thank the Headmaster, Su Lee, all the staff and especially the children for all their efforts in making me feel very welcome and involved in, what I gather, was really just a very normal day at Whaley Bridge Primary School.
